PUNE: Commissioner of police A.N. Roy has ordered the opening of three new police posts at Koregaon Park, Chandannagar (Yerwada) and Sangvi village. The posts are expected to become functional within a month. Roy told TNN that the three areas had been chosen from a list of seven sensitive areas which did not have adequate police presence. The commissioner said complaints about robberies and burglaries were common in Koregaon Park, where the Osho Commune is located.
The Koregaon park chowky will also cover crimes in nearby Mundhwa, Roy said. He said he had instructed the control room to attend to calls received on the number '100' seriously and respond immediately, adding that all the 19 police stations and 64 posts had been asked to respond to complaints quickly. Roy said even as surprise checks would be carried out by police officers at various levels to ensure that the directives were being followed, beat patrolling had been planned in areas frequented by senior citizens for morning and evening walks. Also, all slums will be monitored under the beat patrolling system with a view to improving communication with citizens at all levels, he said. Roy has already started updating the city police website (punepolice.com) with useful information and tips and has invited suggestions from citizens via e-mail.
